The Begana lake and village

INTRODUCTION Surrounded by pristine Nature, with gurgling mountain springs forming natural boundaries on either side, the Begnas Lake Resort spans a whole hillside of unspoilt forestland. To the North and the North-East are the great Himalayan snowy peaks, below which lie terraced paddy fields and the tranquil Begnas Lake, lending a perfect picture frame for the window of every guestroom. Surrounding the resort area are Chestnut, Orange and other fruit bearing trees interspersed by bushes of Coffee, Cardamom and flowering plants. The entire resort breathes of pure, unadulterated Nature. In this healing and life-nourishing environment, we have established the Himalayan Nature Spa that offers a wide range of classical Ayurvedic treatments as well as soothing and rejuvenating massages conducted by an experienced team of Ayurveda experts from Kerala. The resort became fully operational in October 1999 as the first deluxe resort outside of Pokhara town. In the absence of basic infrastructures such as road, electricity, telephone and water lines, it took three full years to construct with the help of local villagers. Every bit of construction material has been hand carried from the road-head to the site. All materials used are natural and locally sourced such as stone, slate, wood, bamboo and cane. The Ayurveda spa has commenced operation only from 2nd March 2009. The resort can be accessed either by a 4-wheel drive over the 3 km dirt road or by a 25 minute Shikara boat ride from the Begnas Bazaar. This countryside bazaar is located 9 km short of Pokhara town on the Kathmandu-Pokhara highway. The Begnas Lake Resort is more than a vacation resort.
